Getting Started with Dext
Hi, I'm Bernie - 4cast's friendly guide. Dext is the app we use to collect your receipts and supplier invoices. I'll show you how to get set up and send your paperwork over - it takes a couple of minutes, and then the shoebox is history. You've got this.
Download the app and log in
Three quick steps and you’re in.
Prefer your computer? You can sign in at app.dext.com instead - same login.
Four ways to send your documents
Pick whichever suits the moment - they all land in the same place.
Snap it on the app
Best for paper receipts
Tap the camera button, photograph the receipt, check it looks clear, and tap Submit. Got a batch? Use Multiple for several at once, or Combine for a bill over several pages.
Email it in
Best for invoices in your inbox
Forward the email - or a photo or PDF - to your own Dext address (it ends in @dext.cc). Don’t know yours? Just ask us and we’ll send it over.
Upload from your computer
Best for a batch of files
Sign in at app.dext.com, click Add documents, then drag and drop. PDF, JPG, PNG or ZIP all work, up to 6MB each.
Send it on WhatsApp
Best for snapping on the go
Just say the word and we’ll switch WhatsApp on for you. Then open your Dext chat in WhatsApp, attach the photo or PDF, and send - it lands straight in your Costs inbox.
Bernie's tips
Get all four corners of the receipt in the photo - lay it flat, fill the frame, and keep it in good light. If a corner’s cut off, Dext can miss the date or the total.
One receipt per photo. Use Multiple or Combine for batches and multi-page bills.
Same invoice every month? If a supplier emails you the same bill regularly - a subscription, say - set up a rule in your inbox to forward it straight to your Dext address. Set it once and it looks after itself. Just ask if you’d like a hand setting it up.
Send little and often - a few seconds when the receipt’s in your hand beats a shoebox at quarter-end.
